My Inspiration
Nov 26, 2008 - Jan 10, 2009
Rollstone Studios presents My Inspiration, featuring work by resident artists Jeffu Warmouth, Reverend Blamo, Ema Kilroy, Elaine Membrino, Anne Giancola, Helen Obermeyer Simmons and Anne Giancola. “This exhibition was created by the artists who made new pieces using this theme,” explains exhibition coordinator Sally Cragin. “I wanted to ask everyone, “what inspires you - what makes you want to create something?”
Anne Giancola comments: “My inspiration is nature and here is an aphorism by Aristotle that speaks to my contribution: ‘In all things of nature there is something of the marvelous’.”
Works include prints, fused glass beads, paintings, collage boxes and a puppet. Fused glass artist Ema Kilroy of Lunenburg constructed shadow boxes displaying unique and recently-created glass beads. “I display three different types of beads I created based on pictures I have seen. One set of beads focuses on the female form, prompted by artwork by Alexandre Anjo. Another series is inspired by shoes - yes, shoes designed and bejeweled by Brian Atwood. The third set are “Cape Cod Beach” themed. I was inspired by a photo of a beach scene with a fence and recreated within a single bead.”
