(part of Fitchburg First Thursday cultural series)

This exhibit includes photos from two very different visits to Egypt: the 2006 Treasures of Egypt tour of Egyptian folk culture and heritage by Oriental dancer and folklore researcher Katia of Boston, and the 2007 Rotary International Group Study Exchange between Rotary District 7910 of Massachusetts and 2450 of Egypt. These photos capture scenes of modern life and work in Egypt, as well as visitors’ travels and timeless antiquities.

“Egypt’s ancient civilization continues to captivate new generations. But Egypt is also a critical presence in present-day global economics and politics, embracing challenges and possibilities in a new millennium. In my photos, I hope to honor the many friends I have made there, and the dialogue between cultures which Egypt inspires now as always.” - Meg Smith
