Jana Morgan

Jana Morgan is an emerging artist who works conceptually through fiber, paint and installation. Most of her pieces explore ways that memory, language and narrative mediate the body’s interaction with place – particularly how loss and nostalgia of old places inform perceptions of new places – and how these mental processes of mediation transform terrains into maps or landscapes. Her work takes multiple forms from psychogeographic maps and aerials to performance to book / video installations that walk the viewer through landscapes where the artist has lived.

Jana currently lives in Fitchburg, MA having moved from Knoxville, TN where she maintained a downtown studio for two years and was active in Knoxville’s vibrant art community. Before that she lived in Los Angeles where she completed her MFA at CalArts, worked as a studio artist and a costumer for theater and film.

In the Los Angeles area, her work has been shown at CalArts, Highways Performance and Art Space, and The Lab Gallery. In East Tennessee, she has shown at the Emporium Galleries, Hanson Gallery and the Oak Ridge Art Center. In Massachusetts, she has an upcoming solo exhibit at Fitchburg State College’s Hammond Art Gallery. She currently teaches part-time at Fitchburg State College and is a working artist in the Rollstone Studios art collective in downtown Fitchburg.
